To the Ostsee from Berlin!

Went to the Ostsee this weekend!


It rained pretty much continuously from the time I left Berlin until Warnitz. The rain definitely slowed down our progress even though we trudged through it, it was often difficult to really push the pace especially when we were on wet and muddy roads. My chain and brakes complained (sometimes by not responding) but ultimately my bike took me through it and we were rewarded at the end by some great sun and warm weather in the afternoon.

The GPS battery ran out after about 13 hours (but I guess that makes it about 15 hours of operation). So I had to wait a little before I could recharge it...but almost everything is there.

 From One Activity to the Next:     My couchsurfing host, Dorian, is an artist and graphic designer. He works for the government cultural ministry and promotes and studies visual arts around the country. He showed me a wide variety of artwork from Nicaragua, from Leon to Bluefields on the Caribbean coast. There is a huge variety of art and influences packed into such a small space. He had a plan in his head and I was fine to go along with it and let someone else be in the driver's seat for a while. Biking in November - Aegina, Greece

The temperatures have dropped significantly in Berlin. So have the number of hours in the day. It's hard top be motivated to do a long distance ride when the thermometer hovers around 0 the entire day. Outside of getting around town and to work I sadly am impatiently waiting until next spring by sitting on a spinning bike at the gym. But! That's why we had to go south to seek fairer skies and bike ride. Now we find ourselves on the hilly Greek island of Aegina, with rented bikes. We arrived yesterday in the port, quickly found the nearest bike shop and rolled away on two rickety mountain bikes. The adventure begins again! We rode through the center of the island-up and down and up and down. I thought it would be sparsely populated but there were villages and houses most of the way.
